The National Youth Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has issued a stern warning to the government, cautioning that the party could take drastic action if what he describes as ongoing harassment of its members does not cease.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, May 19, during a visit by the NPP to the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Salam Mustapha said the party is increasingly concerned about what it perceives as a pattern of intimidation targeting its members.
He stressed that the NPP, as a major political force with a large nationwide following, would not remain passive in the face of such developments. According to him, the party is prepared to activate its support base if the situation escalates further.
“If this does not stop, we will mobilise our people and make the country extremely difficult to govern,” he warned, adding that the party expects authorities to ensure the safety and rights of its members.
His comments come amid the detention of the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye. He was remanded for two weeks on May 13, 2026, over allegations relating to offensive conduct and the publication of false statements against a judge.
Mustapha indicated that the party is closely monitoring the situation and warned of consequences should anything untoward happen to Abronye while in custody. He further cautioned that continued pressure on party members could provoke a stronger and more coordinated response from the opposition.
While reiterating the NPP’s willingness to play a constructive role in national governance, he maintained that the party would firmly resist any actions it perceives as attempts to silence or intimidate its members.
The development has heightened political tensions, with observers watching closely to see how both the government and opposition navigate the situation in the coming days.
