K.K. Fosu has officially declared his intention to contest the Akuapem North parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the 2028 general election, setting his sights on unseating incumbent Member of Parliament, Sammy Awuku.
The highlife musician, who had initially planned to enter politics ahead of the 2024 elections but shelved his ambition following a motor accident, says he is now fully prepared to return to the political arena.
Speaking on Asempa Showbiz with Adu Kumi, K.K. Fosu expressed confidence in his chances, insisting that neither Sammy Awuku’s political influence nor the backing of a major political party would prevent him from winning the seat.
“If Sammy Awuku likes, he should leave the NPP and come to meet me face-to-face. I am going as an independent candidate,” he stated.
According to the musician, he is ready to face Sammy Awuku in the 2028 parliamentary race regardless of whether the incumbent contests on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or decides to run as an independent candidate.
K.K. Fosu maintained that party affiliation would not be the deciding factor in the election, arguing that voters would ultimately choose the candidate they trust to represent their interests.
Explaining his confidence, the musician claimed that the NPP would not have the influence to determine the outcome of the election, declaring that the “party is dead.”
His latest announcement marks a renewed push into politics after his earlier ambitions were put on hold due to the accident that forced him to withdraw from contesting the 2024 elections.
With the 2028 general election still some time away, K.K. Fosu’s declaration signals the beginning of what could become a closely watched contest for the Akuapem North parliamentary seat, especially if Sammy Awuku seeks another term.
