Two men accused of stealing gold-bearing materials from a mining concession have been granted bail by the Nkawie Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region.

The accused, 27-year-old Paul Udeze and 26-year-old Robert Mensah, were each granted bail in the sum of GHS100,000 with two sureties after pleading not guilty to charges of conspiracy to steal and stealing.
The court, presided over by Mr. Robert Addo, ordered the two to return on July 20, 2026, for the continuation of the case.
Presenting the facts, Chief Inspector Anthony Ohene Gyan told the court that the complainant, Jonas Alban, serves as the Security Supervisor at Asanko Gold Mining Limited in Esaase, located in the Amansie West District.
According to the prosecution, Udeze and Mensah, who are friends and allegedly engage in illegal mining activities, reside at Tetrem, a community near Esaase.
The prosecution stated that at about midnight on June 15, 2026, security personnel on patrol at the mining site allegedly intercepted the two men carrying eight sacks containing gold-bearing ore believed to have been taken from the company’s concession.
The suspects were immediately apprehended by the security team and handed over to officers at the Ahwerewa Police Station for further investigations.
Chief Inspector Gyan further told the court that the accused admitted to the offence in their caution statements. Following investigations, they were formally charged and brought before the court to face trial.
The case has been adjourned to July 20, 2026.
