The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, is expected to appear before a court in the Netherlands within the next 48 hours following his recent arrest at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

The lawmaker was taken into custody on Sunday, May 8, after authorities linked him to alleged money laundering activities and suspected involvement in romance scam operations. Details surrounding the case remain limited, but sources close to his legal team suggest that he intends to contest both the basis of his arrest and the legality of his continued detention when he appears before the court.
News of the arrest was officially confirmed in a statement issued by Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Clerk to Parliament. The statement indicated that Parliament has been formally notified of the situation and is actively engaging Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to gather further information.
According to the statement, the leadership of Parliament, including the Speaker, is maintaining close contact with officials at the mission as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the detention of the Independent MP.
Meanwhile, Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has sought to reassure the public, stating that the MP is in stable condition and has not suffered any harm while in custody.
The case is expected to draw significant public attention in the coming days as proceedings begin in the Dutch court.
