Award-winning Ghanaian gospel musician Obaapa Christy has appealed to Ghanaians to celebrate and appreciate her contributions to the music industry while she is still alive, rather than waiting until after her death.

Speaking at the launch of her maiden headline concert, Royal Praise, held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, the celebrated gospel singer said recognition should be given to artistes during their lifetime so they can experience and enjoy the appreciation they have earned.
“People should celebrate me now. They shouldn’t wait until I retire or leave this world before appreciating what I have done,” she said.
According to Obaapa Christy, many musicians dedicate their lives to inspiring people through their craft, yet their efforts often go unnoticed until they pass away.
The veteran gospel artiste also challenged the perception that musicians who have spent decades in the industry should step aside to make way for younger talents. She maintained that gospel music is a divine calling rather than a profession with an expiration date.
She stressed that experienced gospel ministers still have a vital role to play and deserve to be honoured while they remain active in ministry.
Obaapa Christy’s remarks come ahead of the inaugural Royal Praise concert, an event she hopes will unite believers in worship and thanksgiving while celebrating another milestone in her more than two decades of gospel ministry.
Although she admitted that headlining such a major concert has come later than expected, the singer said she believes the timing reflects God’s perfect plan.
She revealed that plans for Royal Praise were conceived several years ago and were initially intended to follow the celebration of her 20th anniversary in ministry. However, she said circumstances delayed the event until this year.
“As Christians, we believe in God’s timing. Even though we had planned this long ago, God has made a way for us to launch and host Royal Praise this year,” she said.
With the maiden edition of Royal Praise now set to take place, Obaapa Christy says she is looking forward to creating an atmosphere of worship while reminding Ghanaians of the importance of celebrating those who have dedicated their lives to serving society through music before it is too late.
