The National Labour Commission (NLC) has directed striking staff of the National Identification Authority (NIA) to immediately suspend their industrial action and return to work.

The directive was issued following a meeting held on Thursday, May 14, involving the Commission, representatives of the Public Services Workers’ Union, the NIA, and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC). The meeting focused on concerns over delays in implementing a migration report linked to the workers’ conditions of service.
In a statement released the same day, the NLC emphasized the need for calm and cooperation while steps are taken to address the workers’ grievances. It directed the FWSC to ensure that the approval and implementation of the migration report for NIA staff are completed by the end of May 2026.
The Commission also made it clear that the ongoing strike should be called off without delay, signaling its intent to restore normal operations at the Authority while negotiations continue.
The matter has been adjourned to June 4, 2026, when all parties are expected to report on progress made, particularly regarding the implementation of the migration arrangements.
The strike by NIA workers had raised concerns about disruptions to national identification services, making the Commission’s intervention a critical step toward resolving the impasse.
