A solemn atmosphere enveloped the funeral grounds on Saturday as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, was joined by top national figures to bid a final farewell to his late father-in-law, Andrews Kwame Amankwah.

The funeral drew a large gathering of dignitaries from across Ghana’s political landscape, including the Vice President, Prof. Jane Opoku-Agyemang, First Lady Lordina Mahama, ministers of state, senior government officials, and leading members of both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Family members, friends, sympathisers, and members of the public also turned out in their numbers to support Mr. Gyamfi and the bereaved family during the final funeral rites.
In emotional tributes, the late Mr. Amankwah was remembered as a peaceful, humble, and devoted family man whose life positively impacted his community. Relatives described him as a pillar of strength, highlighting his unwavering support, guidance, and love for his family.
The circumstances surrounding his death cast a shadow over the ceremony. Mr. Amankwah reportedly lost his life following a robbery attack earlier this year, an incident that has sparked concern over security and public safety.
Despite the pain of the loss, the gathering reflected unity and solidarity, as political leaders from opposing sides put aside their differences to mourn with Mr. Gyamfi and honour the memory of the deceased.
A memorial church service held as part of the funeral rites saw prayers offered for the peaceful repose of Mr. Amankwah’s soul, while words of comfort were shared with the grieving family.
Meanwhile, police have dismissed earlier reports suggesting that suspects arrested in connection with the robbery had escaped custody, maintaining that all individuals remain in detention as investigations and judicial processes continue.
