MTN Ghana has announced the introduction of a new transaction fee on Mobile Money (MoMo) transfers from wallets to bank accounts, set to take effect from June 1, 2026.

In a message sent to customers on Monday, May 25, the telecom giant indicated that users will now be charged 0.75 percent per transaction when transferring funds from their MoMo wallets to bank accounts. The fee, however, will be capped at GH¢5 per transaction, regardless of the amount being transferred.
According to the company, the adjustment forms part of efforts to enhance service delivery and improve customer experience across its digital payment platform.
“This will help us continue to serve you better,” the message to customers stated.
The new charge is expected to impact millions of Ghanaians who rely on Mobile Money services for daily financial activities, including sending money, paying bills, and conducting business transactions. Transfers from MoMo wallets to bank accounts have become increasingly popular in recent years, particularly among small business owners and individuals seeking convenient ways to manage their finances.
Mobile Money remains one of the most widely used digital financial services in Ghana, playing a key role in driving financial inclusion and reducing reliance on cash transactions.
While MTN Ghana maintains that the move is aimed at improving service quality, the introduction of the fee may spark concerns among users who frequently transfer funds between their wallets and bank accounts.
The company has not indicated whether similar charges will be extended to other types of MoMo transactions.
