One of Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama’s private jets has departed Ghana to undergo conversion into a fully equipped air ambulance, a move expected to significantly strengthen the country’s emergency medical response system.
The aircraft, widely known as the Dzata Jet, left the country on Friday, April 3, 2026, according to a video shared on social media. It is set to be retrofitted with advanced medical technology, including life-support systems and critical care equipment, to enable it to handle emergency medical evacuations across the nation and beyond.
In the caption accompanying the video, it was confirmed that the aircraft, identified as N604EP, will be transformed into a specialised medical jet designed to respond to urgent health situations. Once completed, the air ambulance is expected to provide rapid transport for critically ill patients, especially in areas with limited access to advanced healthcare facilities.
The development follows Mahama’s recent acquisition of a new long-range aircraft, the Bombardier Global 6500, which was delivered in March 2026 after undergoing custom modifications. The jet arrived at Kotoka International Airport on March 3, 2026, marking a major addition to his aviation assets.
Speaking after receiving the new aircraft, Mahama revealed that his decision to repurpose the older jet was driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to public healthcare.
“This is for every Ghanaian, not for me alone,” he stated, emphasizing that the air ambulance would be accessible to all citizens in times of medical emergencies.
The initiative has been widely viewed as a significant private-sector contribution to national development, particularly in addressing gaps in emergency medical transportation. If successfully implemented, the air ambulance service could improve survival rates in critical cases by ensuring faster access to specialized care facilities both within and outside Ghana.
