Kofi Iddie Adams has been named as the Minister Designate for Sports and Recreation by President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama.
This comes in the latest wave of ministerial appointments announced on Tuesday, January 21 that had notable National Democratic Congress (NDC) members Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa named as Minister Designate for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Samuel Nartey George named as the Minister Designate for the Ministry of Communications.
Adams’ announcement as the Minister of the renamed Ministry of Sports and Recreation, came as a shock considering former Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuije was considered the consensus pick for the position.
Should the veteran Politician get cleared by the Parliamentary Vetting Committee, he will be tasked with turning around a sector that is bedeviled with corruption, chronic funding challenges and under performance.
At the time of his appointment, Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team, the Black Stars, have failed to qualify to the 2025 AFCON in Morocco and the West African nation is coming off another disastrous campaign at the Olympic Games.
