Former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has struck a defiant tone after regaining his freedom following four days in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), insisting investigators never questioned him about the alleged GH¢55 million financial and procurement-related irregularities for which the agency says he is under investigation.
Aboagye, an aide to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was released on Tuesday, July 14, after meeting bail conditions set at GH¢50 million.
Shortly after his release, Aboagye took to social media to dismiss reports linking his interrogation to the alleged GH¢55 million scandal.
“For the records: There was no discussion of any GH¢55 million with me by EOCO. None!!!”
He also portrayed his detention as a failed attempt to intimidate him, declaring that the experience had only strengthened his resolve to remain active in the opposition New Patriotic Party.
“I am out. I am unbroken. And I am more ready than ever,” he wrote, thanking party supporters, the NPP leadership and his legal team for standing by him during his detention.
Aboagye further argued that his arrest came just a day after he publicly announced his intention to contest for the position of National Communications Director of the NPP, suggesting that the circumstances surrounding his detention were politically motivated.
Despite Aboagye’s claims, EOCO has maintained that his arrest forms part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving approximately GH¢55 million during his tenure as Executive Secretary of IMCCoD.
The anti-graft agency has also confirmed that former IMCCoD accountant Gerald Appiah was arrested alongside Aboagye as investigations continue.
Aboagye was arrested on Sunday, July 12, upon his arrival at the Accra International Airport by immigration officers before being handed over to EOCO.
His arrest sparked protests from some NPP supporters, who described the action as politically motivated and demanded his immediate release.
While Aboagye insists the alleged GH¢55 million issue was never raised during his interrogation, EOCO has not indicated that its investigations have concluded, maintaining that the probe into the alleged financial and procurement irregularities remains ongoing.
