The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery and killing of 40-year-old gold buyer, Seth Kobina, at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.
The incident occurred on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., when armed men allegedly attacked Seth Kobina at his gold-buying shop.
According to the Police, the assailants shot Kobina in the chest before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.
The victim was subsequently rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations, including a review of CCTV footage, led the Police to identify 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, alias “Vandam”, as the alleged leader of the group.
Amponsah was arrested on Friday, August 21, at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta. Police said a search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.
However, Amponsah later became ill and was transported to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical attention, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Further investigations led to the arrest of three other suspects in the Agona Nkwanta area. They are 47-year-old Christopher Seyiri, alias “Cross and Die”; 20-year-old Bashiru Ibrahim; and 30-year-old Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale”.
The fifth suspect, Isaac Quayeson, alias “Last Burial”, was arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region.
Police said a search of Quayeson’s residence resulted in the recovery of another locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
During interrogation, Quayeson reportedly identified the deceased’s alleged shooter as Emmanuel Amponsah. He also identified Thomas Odoom as one of the persons captured in the CCTV footage during the robbery.
The five suspects are assisting the Police with investigations as efforts continue to track down other individuals believed to have been involved in the robbery and killing.
The Western Regional Police Command has assured the public that investigations will continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that all persons found culpable are brought to justice.
