Former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Dennis Edward Aboagye, popularly known as “Miracles,” has suffered another major setback after an Accra High Court granted an application by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to freeze five of his bank accounts and four landed properties.
The court order forms part of EOCO’s ongoing investigations into the alleged misappropriation of approximately GH¢55 million at the IMCCoD. The anti-graft agency is investigating suspected fraud, theft and procurement-related irregularities believed to have occurred during Mr. Aboagye’s tenure as Executive Secretary.
The latest development comes just weeks after Mr. Aboagye was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport upon his return to Ghana on Sunday, July 12. He was intercepted by immigration officials and handed over to EOCO officers for questioning before subsequently being granted release.
EOCO says the arrest followed significant new findings uncovered during its investigations. According to the agency, although Mr. Aboagye had previously honoured invitations to assist investigators, a stop order had been placed on him to prevent any travel that could potentially interfere with the ongoing probe.
The freezing of Mr. Aboagye’s assets is expected to preserve properties and financial resources that investigators believe may be relevant to the case while inquiries continue.
EOCO has maintained that its actions are part of a broader investigation into the alleged financial improprieties at the IMCCoD and insists that investigations are still underway.
As part of the same investigation, the agency has also confirmed the arrest of the committee’s former accountant, Gerald Appiah, as authorities intensify efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged loss of public funds.
No criminal conviction has been secured against Mr. Aboagye or any other suspect in relation to the matter, and investigations remain ongoing.
