The Ghana Education Service (GES) has initiated steps to identify and sanction a student captured in a viral video assaulting a fellow student, in an incident that has sparked widespread public outrage.

The disturbing footage, which has been widely circulated on social media, shows a student repeatedly attacking another while other students looked on without intervening. The victim is seen attempting to escape, but the assault continues, raising serious concerns about student safety and discipline in schools.
Reacting to the incident, the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, confirmed that the matter has been referred to the Director-General of GES for immediate action. He indicated that the Ministry of Education is treating the issue with urgency.
“The attached viral video of a student assaulting another student has come to the attention of the Ministry. I have forwarded it to the Director-General of GES for action,” he stated.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Education, Dr. Apaak emphasized that indiscipline within the education system will not be tolerated, warning that appropriate punitive measures will be applied once investigations are concluded.
“Indiscipline will be punished,” he stressed.
The GES is expected to conduct a thorough investigation to identify those involved and determine the appropriate sanctions in line with its code of conduct. Authorities have also assured the public that all individuals found culpable will be held accountable.
The incident has reignited national discussions around student behaviour, school safety, and the enforcement of disciplinary standards across educational institutions. Many stakeholders are calling for stricter supervision in schools and stronger measures to curb rising cases of student violence.
As investigations continue, the public awaits decisive action from the GES to address the incident and restore confidence in the country’s education system.
