The National Democratic Congress (National Democratic Congress) has announced plans to name its national headquarters after its founder and former President, Jerry John Rawlings, as part of activities marking what would have been his 79th birthday.

The decision, taken in collaboration with the J.J. Rawlings Foundation, forms part of a series of commemorative events scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2026, under the theme “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy.” The initiative is aimed at celebrating the late statesman’s contribution to Ghana’s democratic development.
According to a statement signed by the NDC Deputy National Communication Officer, Godwin Ako Gunn, the day will begin with the official naming of the party’s headquarters after the late former president, followed by the unveiling of a bust in his honour at 9:00 a.m.
The ceremony is expected to be attended by leading members of the party, including President John Dramani Mahama, who is also expected to address participants alongside other senior party officials.
A second event will be held later in the day at the auditorium of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences in Accra, beginning at 4:00 p.m. The programme will feature a lecture and exhibition focusing on the life, legacy, and political journey of Rawlings.
Renowned legal practitioner and academic Tsatsu Tsikata will deliver the keynote address, while other speakers include Dr Akwasi Opong-Fosu and former Minister for Information and National Security Kofi Totobi Quakyi.
The NDC and the J.J. Rawlings Foundation have invited party members, supporters, cadres, and the general public to participate in the events, which are intended to honour the enduring legacy of the late former president.
