The Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has confirmed that lawyers representing detained Member of Parliament, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, have successfully filed a bail application in a Dutch court.

Speaking on PM Express on JoyNews, Mr. Dafeamekpor disclosed that the application was submitted on Tuesday, with legal representatives pushing for an expedited hearing. He expressed optimism that the court could hear the matter within the week.
“So, the lawyers have successfully filed for his bail today. And so we are praying that they will be given a hearing sometime within the week,” he stated.
Mr. Frimpong is currently being held in custody in Amsterdam as legal proceedings continue before a Dutch court. While details of the case remain under judicial consideration, his detention has attracted widespread attention in Ghana, with parliamentary leaders and government officials closely monitoring developments.
According to Mr. Dafeamekpor, efforts to support the detained legislator extend beyond Parliament. He revealed that the government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the Netherlands, has been actively engaged in ensuring that the MP receives the necessary assistance.
“The government has also supported. The Foreign Minister has been able to coordinate the work of our ambassador to The Hague to support and offer him every assistance,” he noted.
He further indicated that Parliament’s leadership has maintained regular contact with both the MP’s family and his legal team, describing the situation as one that calls for patience and solidarity.
Mr. Dafeamekpor appealed to the public to remain calm and keep the legislator and his family in their thoughts as they await the court’s decision.
“We think that he will prevail with the bail application,” he added.
He also argued that granting bail would allow Mr. Frimpong to continue discharging his parliamentary duties while investigations and court proceedings are ongoing.
“He should have his interim freedom to be able to do his work. He will not evaporate and go anywhere,” he stressed.
For the MP’s family and constituents, the coming days are expected to be critical as they await the court’s ruling on whether he will be granted temporary release pending the outcome of the case.
