President John Dramani Mahama has strongly condemned the recent assault of a teacher by students at Kade Senior High School, expressing concern over what he described as the inadequate handling of the case.
The incident, which surfaced online in October 2025, reportedly involved students attacking a mathematics teacher after he refused to allow them to cheat in exams. Following the attack, the parents of the students reached an out-of-court settlement with the teacher, prompting questions about whether justice had been served.
Speaking at the Delegates Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), President Mahama criticized the resolution.
“Indeed, I saw the video of the Maths teacher being beaten because he refused to allow our students to cheat, and they had a sense of entitlement. The unfortunate thing is that the matter went to the police station, and the parents of the students said they settled the matter amicably,” the President said.
He added that even if the teacher chose not to press charges, the students should have faced formal disciplinary or legal action. “At least the children should have been booked, they should have been taken through the legal process, and bonded to be of good behavior for a period of time. Then we will believe that justice has been done,” he stated.
President Mahama reiterated his support for teachers, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing violence against educators across the country.
