Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has said his side has officially withdrawn and will not take part in the probing by the Ad-hoc committee investigating the chaos on January 30, 2025.
Speaking on the floor of the House on February 7, the Effutu MP accused chairman of the ad-hoc committee of being bias in his actions on dealing with the matter.
He noted that his caucus has written to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin awaiting his arrival as he’s currently out of the jurisdiction.
“We’ve written to Mr speaker and we will respect his authority and wait for his arrival. We would not be part of a one sided committee. Our members have withdrawn ourselves from the committee. The chairman is prejudging the issue and we would not allow that,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
He further argued that per the Speaker’s ruling which lifted the suspension on the four MPs, the Committee’s hearing should have been in-camera
“It’s very regrettable that the chair of the committee has granted not less than 6 interviews to the media attacking my personality. I want the public to know that what the chair is doing is done in battery. That is not how a chair is supposed to behave,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Ad-hoc committee is holding its second day of the hearing on the vetting chaos. The hearing has been made open to the public with the Marshall of Parliament, Mintah Akandoh and Ablakwa being questioned as witnesses so far.
