Dr. Edu Mohammed, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Edu Herbal Clinic, has called for greater youth participation and policy reforms in Ghana’s herbal medicine sector.
Speaking on The Journey Show on Adom TV, Dr. Mohammed emphasized that the herbal industry presents significant job opportunities for young people. According to him, the sector is lucrative and has the potential to address unemployment, but many young people lack the patience and commitment required to master the craft.
“With dedication, there is money and opportunity in herbal medicine, but young people must be willing to learn and grow in the field,” he stated.
Drawing from his over three decades of experience, Dr. Mohammed stressed the importance of continuous learning in the ever-evolving health sector. He revealed that he regularly travels abroad to gain more knowledge and also updates his skills through studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology every two years.
While commending the Food and Drugs Authority for its role in regulating the industry, he expressed concerns about policies that he believes limit the growth of traditional medicine. He urged authorities to involve experienced practitioners in policy formulation to ensure practical and effective regulations.
Dr. Mohammed also advised practitioners in the herbal field to operate professionally by obtaining the necessary documentation before starting their businesses.
His remarks highlight the need for collaboration between regulators and industry players to unlock the full potential of Ghana’s herbal medicine sector.
