The Ghana Football Association has appointed experienced Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars following the dismissal of Otto Addo due to the team’s recent poor performances.
The decision was finalised after a key Executive Committee meeting of the GFA, where three shortlisted candidates were assessed. According to sources, the Association has since formally presented Queiroz to government authorities as its preferred choice to take charge of the national team.
Queiroz, 73, was among three high-profile coaches interviewed on Friday, April 10, 2026, as part of a rigorous selection process aimed at restoring stability and confidence within the Black Stars setup.
The veteran coach brings extensive international experience to the role, having previously managed several national teams, including Iran national football team, Egypt national football team, and Colombia national football team. He also had a stint in club football with Real Madrid.
Renowned for his tactical discipline and defensive organisation, Queiroz is credited with guiding Iran to multiple FIFA World Cup appearances, earning a reputation as one of the most experienced international managers in world football.
His appointment marks a clear shift in direction for Ghana as the team looks to rebuild ahead of major international assignments, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The tournament will be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Ghana has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama national football team, England national football team, and Croatia national football team.
The GFA is expected to make an official announcement in the coming days, outlining Queiroz’s contract details and immediate technical plans for the Black Stars.
