The Government of Ghana, in collaboration with the families of the late Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala and Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed, has announced the burial rites for the two Muslim leaders who were among the eight victims of the recent military helicopter crash.
A statement issued by the Office of the President noted that the arrangements are being conducted in accordance with Islamic tradition, customs, and practices, with the full participation of the nation’s leadership.
The solemn rites will begin with the Muslim Jannaza (funeral) prayers on Sunday, August 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Forecourt of the State House. .
Following the prayers, the burial will take place at the Military Cemetery in Accra at 2:30 p.m. on the same day.
The two statesmen were widely respected for their service to the nation. Dr. Murtala Mohammed was the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, while Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed was the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and a former Minister for Agriculture.
Their passing, alongside six others, in the helicopter crash has plunged the nation into deep mourning, with tributes pouring in from across the political, religious, and traditional leadership of Ghana.
