First Lady Lordina Mahama was visibly emotional during a solemn ceremony to lay flowers in memory of the victims of the helicopter crash that claimed eight lives on Wednesday, August 6.
The crash, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, killed Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others, including military personnel.
Mrs. Mahama, who was accompanied by her children, dignitaries, and mourners, broke down in tears as she paid her respects to the deceased. The moment drew sympathy from those present, many of whom also appeared deeply moved. She was comforted by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and her children.
Meanwhile, Minister of Communications Sam George also became emotional, breaking down in tears.
The flower-laying ceremony is part of a series of national mourning activities ahead of the state burial scheduled for August 15, 2025.
