President John Dramani Mahama has approved a major reorganisation of the National Security Council Secretariat, resulting in new appointments and reassignments across several key operational departments.
The changes, announced by the Presidency on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, include the appointment of former Chief of Army Staff, Major General (Rtd.) William Ayamdo, as Deputy National Security Coordinator responsible for Operations.
Major General Ayamdo’s new position places him at the centre of the operational activities of the National Security Council Secretariat. He will work under the National Security Coordinator as the institution implements its security mandate.
The latest changes also affect the office of former National Security Coordinator Yaw Donkor. He has been reassigned to the Office of the National Security Advisor, where he will take up duties as Director of Intelligence and Research.
Other senior-level changes have been made within the Secretariat as part of the restructuring.
Adam Saaka has been appointed Director of Logistics and Transport, while Faustina Effah-Boadi has been named Officer in Charge of the Human Security Department.
Retired DCOP Peter Ndekugri has also been assigned to lead the Special Investigations Unit as Officer in Charge.
In another change, ACP Alhassan Osman has been reassigned to the Ghana Police Service for further deployment. His reassignment effectively ends his current posting at the National Security Council Secretariat.
The Presidency said the appointments and reassignments are part of efforts to reorganise the Secretariat and strengthen the coordination of the country’s security operations.
All the new appointments and reassignments take immediate effect.
The changes come as the Mahama administration continues to make adjustments to key institutions as it seeks to improve coordination, intelligence gathering and operational effectiveness within Ghana’s security architecture.
