President John Dramani Mahama has wrapped up a two-day working tour of the Volta Region, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure, expanding economic opportunities and strengthening public services under the government’s Resetting Ghana Agenda.

The visit, which formed part of the President’s nationwide accountability and outreach programme, took him to several communities across the region where he inspected ongoing projects, commissioned completed facilities and engaged directly with residents on government policies and development priorities.
President Mahama was accompanied by senior government officials, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives led by the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, as well as regional party leaders.
A key highlight of the first day was the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of 18 model markets under the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Programme, with one market to be built in each Municipal and District Assembly in the Volta Region. The initiative is expected to boost local trade, create employment and support economic growth.
The President also visited the Peki College of Education to inspect a newly completed 1,500-seat multipurpose assembly hall before assessing progress on the Asikuma-Ho Road project, one of the major infrastructure interventions under the government’s Big Push programme. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and indicated confidence that the road would be completed ahead of schedule.
In Ho, President Mahama toured the Multi-Purpose Laboratory Complex at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), describing the state-of-the-art facility as a major investment in Ghana’s healthcare and research sector. The laboratory is expected to strengthen medical training, disease surveillance and scientific research while serving the wider West African sub-region.
The President also used the opportunity to engage residents on the government’s Free Primary Healthcare Programme, outlining measures aimed at improving access to quality healthcare and reducing the burden of medical costs on citizens.
On the second day of the tour, President Mahama inspected the Ho Sports Stadium and announced plans to transform the ageing facility into a modern sports and entertainment complex capable of hosting international competitions and supporting year-round economic activities.
He later participated in a Citizens’ Engagement and Town Hall Meeting at Ho Technical University, where he interacted with traditional leaders, students, civil society organisations, youth groups and residents.
During the forum, sector Ministers responsible for Health, Roads and Highways, Transport, Tourism, Sports and Recreation, as well as Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, provided updates on projects and policy interventions being implemented across the Volta Region. Residents also had the opportunity to ask questions and offer suggestions on issues affecting the region’s development.
The President concluded the tour in Ave-Dakpa, where he commissioned the newly completed Akatsi North District Police Headquarters. He described the facility as a significant investment that would enhance policing, improve public safety and strengthen security in the district.
Throughout the visit, President Mahama received warm receptions from chiefs, religious leaders, labour unions, youth groups, students and residents, many of whom expressed optimism about the development initiatives underway in the region.
Speaking on behalf of the chiefs and people of the Volta Region, Regional Minister James Gunu commended the President for prioritising the region in his nationwide outreach programme and praised the administration for fulfilling its development commitments.
He assured the President that the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, together with the Municipal and District Assemblies, would work to ensure the effective implementation and sustainability of all government projects.
The two-day tour ended with President Mahama reaffirming his administration’s determination to accelerate inclusive development, improve livelihoods and deepen engagement with citizens as the government continues implementing its Resetting Ghana Agenda across the country.
