The Gbese District Court has sentenced Fidelis Samuel Mensah to 30 days’ imprisonment after he was convicted of posing as an employee of the National Identification Authority (NIA) to defraud unsuspecting applicants seeking Ghana Card services.

According to the NIA, Mensah falsely presented himself as a staff member at the Authority’s Regional Office in Accra, where he deceived members of the public by promising to assist them with Ghana Card registration and update services.
Investigations revealed that through the fraudulent scheme, Mensah unlawfully obtained cash, mobile phones, and personal documents from several victims.
In a statement shared on its official Facebook page on Thursday, June 25, 2026, the NIA disclosed that Mensah was arrested during a joint intelligence-led operation conducted by the NIA Police Investigation Unit and NIA staff.
Following his arrest, he admitted to the offences and pleaded guilty to charges of stealing and defrauding by false pretences.
“Fidelis Samuel Mensah, who falsely posed as an employee of the National Identification Authority (NIA) to defraud applicants at the NIA Regional Office in Accra, has been sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment by the Gbese District Court,” the Authority stated.
It added that Mensah’s conviction was secured on his own plea after he confessed to the offences.
The NIA has urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid dealing with unauthorized individuals who claim to offer assistance with Ghana Card registration and related services. The Authority reiterated that all official NIA services are provided through designated channels and encouraged the public to report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
