The Ghana Police Service has arrested Kwame Afriyie, Kofi Acheampong, and Michael Owusu Agyeman as part of a major anti-drug operation conducted across several communities in the Kumasi Metropolis.
The intelligence-led operation was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team (SOT) in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command. The exercise targeted suspected drug distribution and sale hotspots, leading to the recovery of large quantities of suspected narcotic substances.
According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters on June 25, 2026, officers arrested 61-year-old Kwame Afriyie, popularly known as “Con Papa” or “American Man,” during a raid in Asawase.
A search of his room and provision shop led to the recovery of 81 parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cannabis, with 33 parcels found in his room and 48 others retrieved from the shop.
In a separate operation at Asafo, police arrested Kofi Acheampong, also known as “Mokobiley.” A search of his room uncovered 311 transparent rubber sachets containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, 13 compressed parcels of dried leaves, 10 brown paper wraps containing black rock-like substances suspected to be narcotics, as well as quantities of restricted pharmaceutical products.
Police also arrested 22-year-old National Service personnel Michael Owusu Agyeman during a raid at Krofrom. He was allegedly found with 15 bottles of fruit juice suspected to have been laced with cannabis.
The coordinated operation further led to the arrest of 10 additional suspects during raids in Atonsu-Bokuro, Krofrom, Kenyase, Asokwa, Buokrom, and Asafo BB. They have been identified as Adamu Ibrahim, Stanley Boahene, Favour Emmanuel, Abubakar Sadick, Adwoa Serwaa Boamah, Paul Quagraine, Nana Kwasi Amo Peprah, Hamdiyah Ibrahim, Nicholas Adorku, and Natson Yaaba.
Police said the exhibits recovered from the various locations included compressed parcels of suspected cannabis, tramadol, ecstasy tablets, amphetamine tablets, suspected cocaine, and other controlled substances. All the seized items have been secured for forensic examination.
The suspects have been arraigned before court and remanded into police custody pending their next court appearances.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service says investigations are ongoing to apprehend other individuals believed to be connected to the illicit drug trafficking network operating within the metropolis.
The statement, signed by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Region, Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, commended the joint operation team for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to combating drug trafficking. The police also appealed to the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible information to help fight drug-related crimes.
