Former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, is expected to lead the Base Movement into the 2028 general elections, according to the group’s founder, George Oti Bonsu.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on June 22, 2026, Oti Bonsu stated that Kennedy Agyapong remains the movement’s preferred leader as preparations gradually begin for the next electoral cycle.
“Kennedy Agyapong will lead us,” Oti Bonsu declared during the interview with broadcaster Kwame Nkrumah Tikese.
The former financier of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) also revealed that he has cautioned members of the Base Movement against engaging in attacks on Kennedy Agyapong or other political opponents ahead of the 2028 elections.
According to him, maintaining discipline and unity within the movement is essential as political activities begin to gather momentum.
When asked directly about the movement’s preferred flagbearer for the next elections, Oti Bonsu suggested that the answer was already apparent to supporters and observers.
“You already know the answer. If I ever deny it, stop coming to my church,” he remarked, drawing laughter during the interview.
Although Oti Bonsu stopped short of outlining the movement’s broader electoral strategy, his comments are likely to fuel speculation about Kennedy Agyapong’s future political ambitions and the role the Base Movement could play in shaping the political landscape ahead of 2028.
Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent businessman and former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, remains an influential figure within the NPP and continues to command significant support among sections of the party’s grassroots.
The latest endorsement from the Base Movement founder is expected to further strengthen discussions surrounding his potential leadership role as political stakeholders begin positioning themselves for the next general elections.
