The family of the late Apostle Emeritus Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Safo has firmly rejected claims that his son, Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo, is the rightful successor to lead the Kristo Asafo Mission.
This follows recent developments within the church, where Israel Safo was reportedly installed as leader, with an announcement shared on the mission’s official social media platforms. The move has, however, sparked controversy and deepened divisions over the succession of the influential religious movement.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Kwadwo Safo family clarified that although Israel Safo was at one point appointed by the founder to take over leadership responsibilities, that decision was later reversed. According to the family, the late Apostle withdrew the mandate after expressing concerns about Israel Safo’s stewardship.
They alleged that several businesses established under the Kristo Asafo umbrella suffered major setbacks during his tenure, with some collapsing and others facing severe operational challenges. The family also claimed that certain core principles of the church were altered without adherence to the founder’s directives.
“These concerns led to a decisive action by Apostle Kwadwo Safo, who revoked the earlier appointment and amended the church’s governance structure to reflect that decision,” portions of the statement indicated.
The family further disclosed that prior to his passing, the founder outlined a new succession plan. As part of that arrangement, former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, was appointed as head of the Kwadwo Safo family and tasked with overseeing the transition process.
They emphasized that the revised framework explicitly excludes Israel Safo from assuming leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
The family has therefore distanced itself from his recent installation, stating that it does not recognise any authority he claims in relation to the church or its associated institutions.
In addition, they cautioned the public against engaging in any transactions or dealings with Israel Safo that suggest he represents the interests of the Kristo Asafo Mission or the Kwadwo Safo family.
Reaffirming their commitment to protecting the legacy of the late founder, the family noted that it is prepared to pursue legal action to uphold his final wishes and safeguard the assets and integrity of the organisation.
