The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has confiscated 40 vehicles at the Tema Harbour after uncovering the use of fraudulent “Drive from Port” (DP) stickers in a targeted intelligence operation.

In a statement released on Friday, April 17, the Authority disclosed that some of the intercepted vehicles carried fake DP stickers, while others had genuine stickers that did not correspond with official records—raising serious concerns about manipulation within the system.
Initial investigations suggest the vehicles were imported by CFAO. However, authorities believe an agent contracted to clear the shipments may have bypassed legal procedures, leading to the irregularities detected.
The DVLA explained that the operation was triggered by unusual trends in DP sticker issuance. After recording a sharp rise—from an average of 2,000 stickers per month to about 15,000 in October 2025—officials later observed a sudden drop in recent months. This inconsistency prompted deeper scrutiny, ultimately exposing the fraudulent scheme.
Officials say the Authority is now working closely with National Security to investigate the matter and clamp down on illegal practices within the vehicle importation and registration process.
The DVLA has also issued a strong warning to importers and industry players to adhere strictly to laid-down procedures. It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparency and protecting the integrity of Ghana’s vehicle registration system.
