The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has officially opened applications for Jewellery and Fabrication Licences (Categories A, B and C) as well as Refinery Licences, effective 22 October 2025.
The initiative is part of GoldBod’s broader mandate to formalise downstream gold value addition, strengthen regulatory compliance, and promote sustainable industry growth in line with the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
GoldBod reminds the public that only duly licensed individuals and businesses are authorised to engage in gold trading, jewellery manufacturing, gold fabrication and refining in Ghana.
Any entity operating in these sectors without a valid GoldBod licence will be in violation of Act 1140.
The Board further clarified that all previous licences issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for refining and fabrication are no longer valid under the new framework.
Existing operators are therefore required to regularise their activities by applying for new licences under the GoldBod Act before 31 December 2025.
According to GoldBod, failure to acquire the appropriate licence before the stated deadline will constitute a punishable criminal offence.
Applications are to be submitted exclusively online via the official website, www.goldbod.gov.gh, as manual or in-person submissions will not be accepted. Applicants are encouraged to review all eligibility criteria, documentation checklists, and applicable fees before submission.
The four categories of licences available include:
Jewellery & Fabrication Licence – Category A: For Ghanaian sole proprietors and small-scale businesses producing jewellery for local sale.
Jewellery & Fabrication Licence – Category B: For medium-sized Ghanaian businesses manufacturing jewellery for both local and export markets.
Jewellery & Fabrication Licence – Category C: For large-scale companies, local or foreign, engaged in large-scale jewellery fabrication for local and export markets.
Refinery Licence: For entities seeking to operate gold refineries within Ghana.
To apply, interested parties must create or log into an account on the GoldBod website, select the relevant category, upload all required documents, including business registration, KYC details, beneficial ownership records, and tax clearances and complete payment through approved electronic channels.
Applicants will receive updates on their application status and interview schedules via their registered accounts and email addresses.
