Vice Chair of the Parliamentary Health Committee, Dr Sebastian Sandaare has assured nurses and midwives of better conditions of services by the government if the economy rebounds.
Dr. Sandaare noted that he is confident of President Mahama’s government to provide additional incentives to nurses and midwives once the economy becomes stable.
Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues, Sunday, June 22, 2025, he said government is not turning a deaf ear to demands by the nurses and midwives because President Mahama is aware of the exceptional healthcare services that motivated nurses could provide.
“Government is not saying that it is not right to give them uniforms. Government is only saying that give us some time because your issues were not captured in the 2025 budget.
“But government knows what motivated nurses and midwives can do in terms of quality health delivery in this country and I believe the kind of President that we have, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama will do more things if you look at how things are going when the economy picks up, he will go beyond uniforms, other incentives will be provided,” he explained.

Nurses and midwives have resumed work after embarking on a strike over implementation of their conditions of service which was agreed in May 2024.
The strike action hit hard as emergency services were withdrawn.
After an intervention by the Parliamentary Health Committee, the strike was suspended on June 13, 2025.
“As a result, the GRNMA’s industrial action initiated on 2nd June 2025 is hereby suspended pending the outcome of a follow-up meeting scheduled for 26th June 2025,
” the Association said.
A meeting between nurses, midwives and government has been scheduled for June 26, 2025 for a final resolution of the matter.
