President John Dramani Mahama has commended Ghana’s security service personnel for their patriotic and compassionate contribution of GHS 1 million to the Ghana Medical Trust, popularly known as the MahamaCares Fund.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, the President expressed gratitude to the various security institutions for their collective donation, which aims to support Ghanaians battling non-communicable diseases such as kidney failure, cancer, stroke, and diabetes.
The contributing institutions include the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons, Narcotics Control Commission, Ghana Refugee Board, National Peace Council, National Identification Authority, and the Gaming Commission.
“This is a commendable, patriotic, and compassionate gesture,” Mahama wrote, highlighting the critical role the Fund plays in saving lives.
During the presentation ceremony, Mahama remarked, “You have the mandate to protect us and make us safe, and you’ve extended that mandate to not only keeping us safe but keeping us well and alive.”
According to Mahama, over 40% of mortality in Ghana is caused by chronic illnesses, and the MahamaCares Fund is a vital initiative designed to provide financial assistance and ensure access to critical healthcare services for affected individuals.
He also acknowledged a previous donation from the Military High Command, noting that the growing support for the Fund will go a long way in “making a significant difference in the lives of many Ghanaians.”
