The Electoral Commission (EC) has postponed the Special Voting exercise in the Eastern and Western Regions, shifting the date to Thursday, December 5, due to concerns over the integrity of electoral materials.
Originally planned for Monday, December 2, the change was confirmed by EC Chairperson Jean Mensa during an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held in Accra on Sunday, December 1.
The EC revealed that a broken seal was discovered on electoral materials designated for the Eastern Region, raising questions about their security. Although no similar issue was reported for the Western Region, the same printing facility produced ballots for both regions. To ensure transparency and trust in the process, the Commission decided to recall and reprint the affected materials.
Despite the adjustment for these two regions, the Special Voting exercise in other parts of the country will proceed as planned on December 2.
In her address, Jean Mensa assured stakeholders of the EC’s dedication to a fair and credible election process. She urged all parties to exercise patience and support the measures taken to uphold the integrity of the elections.
