Parliament is set to resume sitting today, Monday, August 24, 2026, following a decision by Speaker Alban Bagbin to recall Members of Parliament for a special sitting.
The recall comes barely a month after the House adjourned on July 31, with the Speaker citing the need for lawmakers to return to the Chamber to deal with urgent parliamentary business.
Speaker Bagbin invoked Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which gives him the authority to recall the House during an adjournment when circumstances demand an early resumption.
The special sitting is expected to provide Parliament with the opportunity to consider and act on matters that cannot be deferred until the next regular sitting.
The House is scheduled to remain in session from Monday, August 24, through Friday, August 28, as part of the recall period.
Among the key matters expected to come before the House are the nominations of Mahama Ayariga as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.
Their nominations are expected to receive parliamentary attention as lawmakers undertake the business for which the House has been recalled.
The return of MPs is therefore expected to make the week an important one for Parliament, with members required to deliberate on the urgent matters outlined for the special sitting.
The recall underscores the Speaker’s authority to reconvene Parliament when pressing national or parliamentary matters require the attention of the House before its normal sitting schedule.
