President John Dramani Mahama has summoned key officials involved in a growing dispute over a development project at Community 1 Site 3 in Tema for a meeting at the Presidency.
The meeting, scheduled for Monday, August 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., is expected to bring together TDC Company Limited Managing Director Courage Nunekpeku and Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive Ebi Bright.
The Minister for Local Government and the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources are also expected to attend the meeting.
President Mahama’s intervention follows mounting tensions between the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and TDC Company Limited over the controversial project.
The dispute intensified after the TMA opposed the development and directed TDC to halt work at the site, citing concerns over the absence of the required development permit.
The situation has also triggered concerns among residents, who have raised questions about activities being carried out at the project site.
Residents have reportedly complained about the removal of trees, the demolition of existing structures and alleged encroachment on playgrounds and green spaces.
There are also concerns that the development could affect access routes within the community, further fuelling opposition to the project.
The position of the TMA has placed it at odds with TDC, a situation that has now prompted presidential intervention.
The Monday meeting is expected to give Courage Nunekpeku, Ebi Bright and the other officials an opportunity to present their respective positions and clarify the circumstances surrounding the project.
President Mahama is expected to hear the concerns raised by the Assembly and residents, as well as TDC’s position, before determining the way forward.
The outcome of the meeting could determine whether the project proceeds, remains suspended or is subjected to further review to address the concerns surrounding permits, access routes and the use of community spaces.
