The Ghana Police Service has arrested Sibamay Zakaria, the man captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting a suspect who was in handcuffs.
According to a statement issued by the Police on Thursday, Zakaria is currently in custody and is assisting with investigations into the incident.
The Police said he will be put before the court following the completion of the necessary investigations.
The Police Professional Standards Bureau is also investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the conduct captured in the viral video.
The Service said its investigations will determine the facts surrounding the incident and establish whether any police personnel or other persons acted contrary to professional standards and the law.
The Ghana Police Service further stated that all persons found culpable will be subjected to the appropriate disciplinary processes in accordance with the law.
The arrest follows public concern over the video, which has attracted widespread attention and raised questions about the treatment of suspects in police custody.
The Police reiterated its commitment to accountability, professionalism and maintaining high standards of conduct among its personnel.
