The legal representative of the Kristo Asafo Mission has refuted claims that the late Apostle Prof. Kwadwo Safo’s will directly appoints Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the next spiritual leader of the church.

Speaking during an interview on UTV, lawyer Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka explained that the founder’s will only identifies Akofena as the head of the Kantanka family and not as the automatic successor to lead the church.
According to him, the distinction was intentional, as the late founder treated family leadership and church administration as two separate matters.
He stressed that if Apostle Kwadwo Safo had intended for Akofena to immediately assume leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission, he would have stated so clearly in the will.
“The document appoints him as the head of the family so his siblings will accord him the respect due a family leader, but it does not specifically name him as the leader of the church,” the lawyer explained.
Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka also rejected public interpretations of the will by individuals without legal training, arguing that wills are technical legal documents whose interpretation should be left to professionals.
He particularly declined to engage comments made by fashion entrepreneur Osebo the Zaraman, insisting that legal interpretation is not a matter of personal opinion.
The lawyer further revealed that Apostle Kwadwo Safo entrusted the process of selecting the church’s next leader to the Council of Elders rather than naming a successor himself.
He explained that the council was mandated to choose from among the late founder’s three children, with Akofena being one of the eligible candidates.
According to Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka, references to Akofena throughout the will simply identify him as one of the founder’s sons and should not be interpreted as an endorsement of his appointment as the church’s next leader.
His comments come amid ongoing public debate over the succession of leadership within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the passing of its founder.
