The Ministry for the Interior has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited following a shooting incident that left former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Adwoa Safo, with an injury to her left ear.

In a statement issued on June 22, 2026, the Ministry announced that the suspension takes immediate effect, citing preliminary findings from an ongoing investigation into the incident.
According to the Ministry, the decision was triggered by allegations that personnel of the private security firm used unapproved uniforms and unlawfully possessed and discharged firearms while providing security services at Kwabenya in Accra on June 21, 2026.
Initial investigations suggest possible violations of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the conduct and operations of private security companies in Ghana.
“The usage of unprescribed uniforms, unauthorised possession and use of firearms and ammunition, as well as security accoutrements by private security personnel, constitutes a serious breach with significant implications for public safety and security,” the statement said.
As part of the directive, all institutions and organisations have been instructed to refrain from engaging in any business transactions with Kantanka Security Services Limited until further notice.
The Ministry also directed the company to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service by providing all necessary information to support a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Officials emphasised that the suspension is an administrative measure aimed at safeguarding public safety while investigations continue. They added that appropriate legal action will be taken once the probe is concluded.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about regulatory compliance within Ghana’s private security sector and the enforcement of laws governing the use of firearms by non-state actors.
