The ongoing trial involving former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General, Kwabena Adu Boahene, and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, took a significant turn as new evidence of financial transactions amounting to $7 million was presented before the High Court.

Lead investigator with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Frank Marshall Cromwell, disclosed during proceedings that the couple issued three cheques totalling $7 million into a jointly owned account. The revelation came under cross-examination by Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem-Sai, as the prosecution continues to trace the movement of funds in the case.
According to the investigator, court records indicate that in February 2020, the accused persons made a payment of $1.75 million to an Israeli firm, ISC Holdings, for the procurement of a cybersecurity defence system. Cromwell testified that this was the only transaction made from the account for the stated purpose.
He further told the court that shortly after the payment, the accused persons instructed the bank to close the accounts used in the transaction. The remaining funds, he said, were subsequently transferred to another account at UMB Bank belonging to Angela Adjei Boateng.
The testimony forms part of the prosecution’s efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged misappropriation of public funds and to track how the money was utilised.
Adu Boahene and his wife are currently facing multiple charges, including stealing, conspiracy to steal, defrauding by false pretences, wilfully causing financial loss to the state, using public office for profit, and money laundering.
The prosecution alleges that Adu Boahene, during his tenure as Director-General of the NSB, unlawfully obtained GH¢49.1 million from the National Security Coordinator’s Special Operations Account. The funds were allegedly transferred into the account of a private company, BNC Communications Limited, and used for personal benefit.
The case has been adjourned as proceedings continue.
