The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has indicated that the 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to be the most expensive tournament Ghana has ever participated in, making it impossible for the government to airlift all supporters to the tournament.

According to him, the financial demands of the competition—set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico—will place significant pressure on state resources, particularly in terms of fan transportation and logistics.
He noted that while government remains committed to supporting the Black Stars, it will not be feasible to sponsor large-scale travel for fans due to the high costs involved.
“The FIFA World Cup 2026 is the most expensive World Cup Ghana is participating in, so government can’t airlift everyone,” he indicated.
Despite the financial constraints, the Buem MP expressed strong appreciation for Ghanaian football supporters, praising their influence in the Black Stars’ successful qualification campaign.
Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, he credited fans for reigniting the connection between the team and the public after a difficult period in the qualifiers.
“Before Mahama came into office, there was a disconnect between the fans and the team, but suddenly things took a different turn, and we saw fans at the stadia,” he said.
“I thank the 12th man, the fans, for their support because without them, it would have been difficult, and since then, it has been a good story after another,” he added.
Ghana have now qualified for their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance and have been placed in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
