Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has praised Ghanaian football supporters for their crucial role in the national team’s successful qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, the Buem MP described the journey of the Black Stars as a “good story after another,” crediting the renewed unity between the team and its fans for the turnaround in results.
According to him, the atmosphere around the team had significantly improved compared to the early stages of the qualifiers.
“Before Mahama came into office, there was a disconnect between the fans and the team, but suddenly things took a different turn, and we saw fans at the stadia,” he said.
“I thank the 12th man, the fans, for their support because without them, it would have been difficult, and since then, it has been a good story after another,” he added.
Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, recovered strongly after a difficult start to book their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The qualification marks Ghana’s fifth appearance at the global tournament, reinforcing their growing reputation on the international stage.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. They will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
As preparations continue, Kofi Adams has urged continued public support, stressing that fan engagement remains vital to the team’s performance on football’s biggest stage.
