Renowned Ghanaian visual artist Ibrahim Mahama has affirmed that his pursuit of action over an alleged assault by police officers is motivated by the pursuit of justice rather than monetary compensation.
Mahama made the remarks following a meeting with the Police Management Board (POMAB) on Thursday, March 26, 2026, as part of ongoing investigations into claims of assault involving members of the Inspector General of Police’s Special Task Force operating the “Black Maria.”
Speaking to the media after the engagement, Mahama emphasized that the primary goal of the meeting was accountability and transparency.
“No, we are not looking for compensation. There is no way we are looking for money. Obviously, I don’t need that. It’s not about that. It’s more just about justice,” he said.
He further explained that his main concern is ensuring the full circumstances of the incident are understood and that those responsible are held accountable.
“We just want to make sure people understand what transpired that day. Because we are all in the country, we are in a democracy. We want to understand what is happening and see how we can solve it,” Mahama added.
The artist highlighted that seeking justice in such cases is vital for strengthening public confidence in the nation’s institutions and assuring citizens that their rights are protected.
“So that when other people are elsewhere, and things like this happen, at least they are assured that in the country they live in, their matter will be taken seriously and there will be some kind of justice,” he said.
