Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Freddie Blay, has been arrested after months of reportedly evading police in connection with an alleged property destruction case in the Akuapem area.
The arrest was carried out on Monday, March 16, 2026, following a bench warrant issued by the Akropong Circuit Court after the former party chairman repeatedly failed to honour invitations and appear before the court.
Police sources indicate that the case stems from a complaint lodged on February 1, 2025, by a landowner in Kitase who claimed his ongoing building project had been destroyed. The complainant reportedly discovered the damage during a visit to the site on January 31, 2025.
Investigators who visited the scene arrested five individuals who were allegedly clearing the land using a backhoe machine. During police interrogation, one of the suspects reportedly named Blay and a traditional leader, Nana Osae Ntifo I (also known as Dada), as the persons who ordered the demolition.
While Nana Osae Ntifo I was subsequently arrested near a police station, Blay allegedly failed to cooperate with investigators despite being invited to assist with the probe.
Court records show that Blay was initially arraigned together with the other suspects on April 24, 2025. However, the court issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear.
Attempts by police to arrest him at his East Legon residence reportedly proved unsuccessful, with investigators claiming that several messages sent to him in May 2025 were ignored.
The warrant remained active until his arrest on Monday. The former NPP chairman is expected to be handed over to the Koforidua Police for further investigations and possible court appearance.
