The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has announced that the government will support the private sector in establishing three large-scale garment factories as part of efforts to boost industrial growth and create thousands of jobs for Ghanaians.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Wednesday, the Minister revealed that the initiative is expected to generate around 27,000 employment opportunities over the long term.
Highlighting the garment industry’s potential for rapid job creation, Ofosu-Adjare explained that the sector can absorb large numbers of workers with minimal training, making it an ideal avenue for immediate employment impact.
“The outlook for 2026 is promising. The government will support private investors to set up three major garment factories, aiming to provide jobs for 27,000 people over time,” she stated.
“Garment factories employ many people, and the advantage is that workers do not need months of training to start contributing. This initiative will not only provide jobs but also strengthen Ghana’s industrial base.”
The Minister stressed that collaboration between the government and private sector remains a central pillar of Ghana’s economic growth strategy, reinforcing efforts to expand industrial capacity while tackling unemployment.
This initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance industrialization, diversify the economy, and create sustainable employment opportunities for Ghanaians.
