Senior Communicator for Movement of Change, Solomon Owusu, has stated that he will petition the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to look into a donation of over 300 new Navara pick-ups made by former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said his action is to ensure accountability and deepen the country’s democracy.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 New Day’s The Big Issue, Wednesday, September 17, 2025, he disclosed his intention to petition the OSP on the matter together with his two colleagues; Ebo Buckman and Appiah Danquah.
“To help deepen our democracy, when I leave this place by 10:30 am I am submitting a petition to the Office of the Special Prosecutor to help us in this regard. That we are going to find out who and who helped him to donate the 300 plus Navara pick-ups,” he stated.
He continued: “this morning together with Ebo Buckman and Lawyer Appiah Danquah, we are going to test the laws of the land to make sure that the former Vice President comes out to explain to the people of this country how and where he got these 300 Navara pick-ups that are brand new in nature and as to whether or not these were not aided by foreigners who are not supposed to take part in our body politics in terms of funding.”
Solomon Owusu stressed the need for the country’s laws to be put to test to strengthen the country’s democracy.
“Was it the case that this money came from his pocket? Was it the case that he was helped by friends or his network as we have been told?
“We have to let the system work. People get away with a lot of things because we have the laws and institution and in this country we are quick to identify the problem but nobody wants to as it were deal with the problem,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia in a recent interaction with NPP delegates recounted making donation of over 300 pick-ups to the NPP to be used by various constituency offices during the 2024 election.
“During the 2024 election, the money I raised for the NPP is unprecedented. It has never happened before in the history of the NPP. I donated over 300 pickups to constituencies. They are now being used in the constituencies,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
According to him, other petition on Bryan Acheampong will follow after claims of dolling out $1500 to each NPP executive.
“From there I am going to petition also on Bryan Acheampong. He was saying that he gave $1500 to each of the Executives. Ken Agyapong also was making reference to some monies,” Mr. Owusu said.
His concerns coincide with the alarming cost of winning a presidential election in Ghana.
