The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old trader, Issaka Mohammed, for allegedly possessing 37 slabs of compressed dried plant material suspected to be Indian hemp.
The arrest was made by the Ashaiman District Police on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., following intelligence received by motorbike patrol officers about a suspected Indian hemp dealer operating at a “ghetto” behind the New Tulaku Cow Market.
In a statement issued on September 14, the Police said officers proceeded to the area and intercepted the suspect with a sack in his possession.
“A search of the sack led to the discovery of the thirty-seven (37) slabs of compressed dried plant material suspected to be Indian hemp.”
The exhibits were counted in the presence of the suspect and retained for evidential purposes.
The Police said Issaka Mohammed is “currently assisting the Police with investigations” and will be put before court “as soon as practicable.”
The Police have urged the public to continue providing credible information on persons involved in the possession, sale and distribution of Indian hemp and other illicit drugs.
It said such information would support efforts to combat drug-related offences.
