Former Gomoa Central Member of Parliament, Rachel Appoh, has strongly criticised the current MP for the constituency, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, over the recent violence linked to a land dispute that reportedly left three people dead and several others injured.
Appoh accused A-Plus of bearing responsibility for the deaths and injuries, alleging that he funded a demonstration that later escalated into a deadly confrontation between residents.
Speaking on Neat FM on September 3, 2026, the former MP said the incident was the result of what she described as poor judgment on the part of A-Plus.
“Your mistake killed three people and injured 19 others,” Appoh said, while calling on the MP to take responsibility for the incident.
She further accused A-Plus of introducing what she described as “total indiscipline and violence” into the constituency.
According to Appoh, the MP should have ensured that proper security arrangements were made before any demonstration was held.
“His lack of intelligence caused those needless deaths. He went on a demonstration without taking a permit or seeking police protection,” she said.
Her comments follow a shooting incident involving residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom and New Winneba in the Central Region, reportedly connected to a longstanding dispute over land ownership.
Reports indicate that some residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom, who claim ownership of land in New Winneba, entered the community in the early hours of Tuesday and allegedly opened fire.
The group was also reportedly attempting to lock up some shops when residents of New Winneba resisted, leading to a confrontation that escalated into an exchange of gunfire.
Several people were injured during the violence, with some residents reportedly fleeing the area for their safety.
Fifteen people, including a police officer who sustained various injuries, including gunshot wounds, were initially rushed to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for treatment.
The police subsequently reinforced security in the area to restore calm and prevent further violence.
Six persons have so far been arrested in connection with the rioting.
Those arrested are Kweku Kakraba, 52; Arko Thomas, 19; Samuel Tulasi, 19; Samuel Gyasi, 22; Emmanuel Okyere, 22; and Seth Osei, 22.
Appoh has meanwhile called on A-Plus to accept responsibility for what she described as the consequences of his actions and to reflect on the deaths and injuries recorded in the constituency.
