President John Dramani Mahama will on Thursday, August 27, cut the sod for the construction of a new multi-tiered, multi-purpose car park and airport hotels complex at the Accra International Airport .
According to the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the project forms part of President Mahama’s focus on delivering major, world-class infrastructure projects.
In a Facebook post, the Minister said President Mahama has a track record of investing in major infrastructure, citing the Terminal 3 project at the Accra International Airport, the MPS Terminal at the Tema Port and the financing secured for the Tema-Mpakadan Railway Project.
The new airport complex is expected to significantly expand parking, commercial and hospitality facilities at the airport.
The project will feature a seven-storey car park with more than 2,000 parking bays, as well as two hotels to serve travellers and other airport users.
It will also include a pedestrian connector linking the new complex to the airport terminal, providing convenient access for passengers and visitors.
Other components of the development include a shopping mall with a food court, retail spaces and office spaces available for rental.
The complex will further feature a sky lounge designed for entertainment and a sky observatory that will provide visitors with views of aircraft during take-offs and landings.
The sod-cutting ceremony on Thursday is expected to mark the commencement of the development, which is set to add new commercial, hospitality and recreational facilities to the airport environment.
The project adds to a number of major infrastructure initiatives associated with President Mahama’s previous administration and his current government’s infrastructure agenda.
