NYA CEO Osman Ayariga Urges Muslim Leaders to Promote Youth Opportunities and Fight Drug Abuse

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Mr. Osman Ayariga, has called on Muslim leaders to support the government’s youth development agenda by educating young people, particularly those in Zongo communities, on available opportunities while raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.

He made the call during an Islamic Dialogue with the youth held at the National Mosque in Kanda as part of activities marking this year’s National Youth Month celebration.

The engagement brought together Islamic leaders and young people to discuss ways of strengthening collaboration and ensuring that young people are better informed about government initiatives designed to equip them with relevant skills and improve their livelihoods.

Mr. Ayariga explained that the dialogue was aimed at briefing Islamic leaders on this year’s National Youth Festival and seeking their support in creating awareness among young people in Zongo communities about key government youth-focused programmes.

Among the initiatives highlighted were the National Apprenticeship Programme, the Adwumawura Programme and the One Million Coders Programme.

According to the NYA CEO, the programmes present important opportunities for young people to acquire practical and digital skills, become economically empowered and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development.

He therefore encouraged the youth to take advantage of the available opportunities and make responsible choices that would help them build productive and sustainable futures.

Mr. Ayariga also expressed concern about the growing threat of drug abuse among young people and urged them to stay away from substances that could negatively affect their health, education, careers and future prospects.

He stressed the importance of responsible decision-making, noting that the choices young people make today can have a significant impact on their future and their ability to contribute positively to society.

The NYA CEO further appealed to Muslim leaders to continue supporting and guiding young people in their communities by promoting positive values, encouraging skills development and helping them access government opportunities.

He also called on the Islamic leadership to continue praying for the nation’s youth and amplify the message of empowerment while discouraging drug abuse.

Mr. Ayariga said a stronger partnership between government institutions, religious leaders, communities and young people would be essential to unlocking the potential of Ghana’s youth and advancing national development.
