An Italy-based Ghanaian, Philip Kwakye, is demanding compensation from his legally wedded wife, Elizabeth Boatemaa, after two separate DNA tests allegedly confirmed that a child she claimed was his is not biologically related to him.
Speaking in an interview on Lawson Afisem on Lawson TV, a programme that resolves domestic disputes, Kwakye narrated how the issue has left him emotionally and financially devastated.
According to him, shortly after marrying Elizabeth Boatemaa, who hails from Offinso in the Ashanti Region, he relocated to Italy to work and support his family.
Kwakye said that before leaving Ghana, medical tests conducted on his wife indicated that she was not pregnant. However, months after his arrival in Italy, Elizabeth informed him that she was expecting a baby.
He claimed his wife explained that although earlier tests showed no pregnancy, a later examination confirmed she was expecting, adding that her pastor had prayed for what she described as a “hidden” pregnancy to manifest.
Despite continuing to provide financial support for his wife and the child, Kwakye said he began to question the child’s paternity due to the timeline of the pregnancy.
“I had doubts because my wife was not pregnant when I left Ghana, so I decided to secretly conduct a DNA test,” he recounted.
According to him, the results of the first DNA test indicated that he was not the biological father of the child.
Kwakye said he later informed his wife and her family about the outcome, but they allegedly rejected the findings, arguing that the test had been conducted without their knowledge or consent.
He further claimed that his mother-in-law dismissed the DNA results, insisting that “DNA is nothing” and urging him to continue caring for the child because they were one family.
The dispute eventually found its way to court after Elizabeth Boatemaa reportedly accused him of neglecting his responsibilities toward the child.
During the court proceedings, Kwakye presented the initial DNA test as evidence to support his doubts over the child’s paternity.
According to him, the court subsequently ordered a second DNA test, which also allegedly confirmed that he is not the biological father of the child.
Despite the outcome of both tests, Kwakye claimed his wife continues to insist that he is the child’s biological father.
“I want compensation for taking care of someone else’s child, and I also want to know who the real father is because I am still legally married to her, though I want us to divorce,” he said.
The claims made by Philip Kwakye during the interview have not been independently verified, and Elizabeth Boatemaa has not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
